Panglao for Couples: Where to Stay and What to Do

Most of Panglao's hotels and restaurants cluster around Alona Beach, on the island's south-western tip in Barangay Tawala. The rest are spread along quieter shores: Danao just to the west, Bolod and Dumaluan to the east, Doljo at the western end and Momo on the north coast. The municipal tourism office recommends nearly all of them to couples, so the more useful question is what you want to do once it gets dark.

This guide draws on resort websites, the tourism offices, map data and travel writers, checked on 29 September 2026; it is not based on stays or visits. One trade-off runs through it: the quieter the base, the more often dinner means a tricycle or Grab ride.

Alona or somewhere quieter?

Alona's case is convenience: dinner, dive shops and island-hopping boats are all a walk away, and the tourism office describes live music and candlelit dinners after dark. The costs are crowds, boat traffic and the water: in September 2024 the provincial environment office reported high coliform levels near Alona at every tide (Bohol Tribune), and the shoreline has been under reconstruction. The quieter shores, roughly in order of distance from Alona's restaurants:

Danao, just west of Alona. The tourism office lists it for couples seeking quiet stays, minutes from Alona; swim at high tide.
Bolod, Dumaluan and Libaong, to the east. Long, calm white sand and resorts with their own beachfronts (Bolod, Libaong), but few restaurants outside them.
Doljo, at the western end. A small number of upscale resorts and boutique stays, which the tourism office describes as thoughtfully spaced, with shallow pools along the shore at low tide.
Momo, on the north coast in Bil-isan. Boutique resorts, homestays and villas, shallow flats at low tide and far less development (Wikivoyage); one resort there puts Alona 5.8 km away.

Twelve stays for two

Each place is here for a reason its own website states. Most appear on the Department of Tourism's May 2026 accreditation list. Price levels are rough; The Bellevue's booking page, for example, showed rooms from ₱6,428 a night (checked 28 September 2026). Check the rate and the exact room before you pay.

Splurge

Amorita ResortOn a limestone cliff above Alona: restaurants are close, the beach crowd is not. The Sea View Pool Villa has its own plunge pool; there are two infinity pools and the Sea Tree Spa.
South Palms Resort & Spa Panglao – MGalleryBeachfront villas and rooms east of Alona, towards Dumaluan, with an infinity pool, spa and three restaurants; opened August 2025. It has a children's playground, so it is not adults-oriented.
Mithi Resort & SpaFourteen hectares in Bingag, Dauis, with a private beach, a spa and every room in its own bungalow; the Seaview Villa, pitched at honeymooners, has an outdoor Jacuzzi. Villas are being renovated one at a time, with work from 8am to 5pm.
The Bellevue ResortBeachfront in Doljo, with the Azurea Spa and a shoreside restaurant the resort promotes for sunset dinners. Rooms run from Superior Twins to the Bellevue Suite; there is also a children's play area.

Mid-range

Amarela ResortBoutique beachfront resort in Libaong, furnished with heritage wood, antiques and Philippine art. Its couples' offer includes a discounted private dinner on the beach or in the garden. The tourism office says Libaong faces east: a sunrise address.
Oceanica Resort PanglaoThe former South Palms, on the Bolod beachfront. It markets its Beach Villa to honeymooners, and its spa uses open-air cabanas.
North Zen VillasTwenty-two rooms and villas among the mangroves in Doljo. The Zen Pool Villa sleeps two and has a private pool; the Zenses' rooms have a bathtub with mangrove and sea views. Spa treatments on site.
Halamanan ResidencesSeven villas in Tawala, three with private pools, each with its own fenced garden; 1.7 km from Alona, according to the owner.
Alona's Coral Garden ResortCalls itself the first and only adult resort on Panglao: nine apartments, bungalows and villas on Kalipayan Beach Road in Danao, one villa with its own pool, and a bar. Confirm the age policy when you book.

Smaller and simpler

Thistle InnTen rooms with balconies in a walled garden in Bil-isan, 1.1 km from Momo Beach, with a pool, massages, a restaurant and beach shuttles.
Mario Dive ResortA few steps from Momo Beach, with a pool and its own dive business; guests can use a motorbike free within Panglao.
Alona Whitehouses ResortSix doubles and an apartment in Tawala, screened by greenery that the owners say blocks traffic and beach noise; five minutes' walk from the main road. The owners say there is no kitchen, but staff will order food in from nearby restaurants.

Ask about building work before you book: resorts often renovate in the quiet months, and in September 2026 Bluewater Panglao warned guests to expect noise from upgrades between 9pm and 5am. Donatela Resort and Sanctuary, a villa resort often suggested to couples, closed on 20 September 2026, according to its website. Our Panglao resorts guide has a longer list.

Where the sun actually sets

Panglao's tourism pages promise sunsets almost everywhere, but only some shores face the right way. At this latitude the sun sets between west-south-west in December and west-north-west in June, so a beach facing south or east will not show it dropping into the sea in front of you. Checked against OpenStreetMap's coastline data:

Momo faces north-north-west across open water (map), so the sun goes down over the sea to your left. The tourism office rates its sunsets highly.
Doljo is, in the tourism office's words, “one of Panglao's best sunset spots”. Its resort beach actually looks north, with the island's western tip just beyond its far end (map); on the headland, marked Sunset Point on OpenStreetMap, the shore faces west.
Alona faces south, so the sun sets off to your right. Sources disagree about the view: the tourism office promises stunning sunsets, Lonely Planet notes the south-facing horizon, and Daily Travel Pill says the sun sets on the other side.
Danao faces south, turning south-west at its western end, where a food writer recommends a sunset dinner on the beach (see below).
Bolod, Dumaluan and Libaong face south to south-east (the tourism office says Libaong faces east): sunrise beaches, as it also says of Bolod.

How much you see from Doljo's sand depends on where you stand and the month, as the headland can hide the last few minutes. The sun sets between about 5.20pm and 6pm for much of the year (5.37pm at the end of September, according to Gaisma), and dusk is short this close to the equator, so arrive early.

Dinner and drinks

A quieter base usually means eating at your resort or taking a short ride. These places are named because their owners or food writers describe them; check opening hours before you go.

Away from Alona

Marea Al Fresco and Marea BarAt The Bellevue in Doljo: seaside dining steps from the shore, promoted for sunset, and a bar for cocktails and small plates. The resort also runs Lamian, serving modern Filipino food.
Pearl RestaurantAt The Panglao Pearl Premier (formerly Linaw Beach Resort) in Danao. Will Fly For Food recommends it for continental steaks and a sunset dinner on the beach, away from Alona's crowds.
Bohol Bee FarmIn Dao, Dauis: farm-to-table cooking with ocean views, according to the same food writers.
Moadto StripModala Beach Resort's row of bars and restaurants in Doljo, with live gigs.
Oceanica Seafood RestaurantLive seafood and an à la carte menu at the former South Palms in Bolod.

Things to do together

Four good days out for two, with the sea days kept flexible:

Hire a boat for two. The classic trip leaves Alona early for dolphins, snorkeling at Balicasag and the Virgin Island sandbar (tourism office). Travel guides put a private boat at ₱3,000 to ₱5,000 (checked 29 September 2026; JourneyEra, LakbayPinas), plus environmental fees. Bohol's dolphin-watching guidelines rule out swimming with or feeding the animals.
Dive or snorkel. Balicasag's reef walls are 30 to 40 minutes away by boat (Balicasag guide); if one of you has never dived, read our first scuba dive guide. Freedivers have Freedive SuperHOME on Doljo Beach, a school founded in 2015 with its own training pool.
Book a spa afternoon at one of the resort spas above: Amorita, The Bellevue, Oceanica or Mithi. Ask whether non-guests can book and whether there is a room for two.
Spend a day on Bohol. The provincial tourism office's countryside tour takes about eight hours by private vehicle: the tarsiers at Corella, Baclayon Church, the Chocolate Hills viewing deck (214 steps up) and a Loboc River cruise with lunch. By public transport, the office warns, more than half the time can go on traveling and waiting.

When to go for a quieter trip

PAGASA's national climate classification puts the dry season from December to May and the rainy season from June to November, and the dry months are also when Panglao is busiest. A director of the Panglao Island Chamber of Commerce and Industry told the Inquirer in November 2025 that July to October are the lean months, when resorts do repairs; Europeans start arriving in November, December to March is the surge, and domestic travelers keep April to June busy.

So couples have two options. November, still in the rainy season, falls after the lean months but before the December-to-March surge. July to October bring emptier resorts, but also more rain, more typhoon risk and more building work. Weekdays are always quieter than weekends; Holy Week and Christmas to New Year are the busiest dates.

Before you book: five questions for the resort

Quiet belongs to a particular room on particular dates, not to a whole resort. Ask:

Is any renovation planned for our dates, and how close is it to our room?
Which way does our room face, and is it near the pool, restaurant or beach bar?
Is there a kids' club or family pool, and where?
What is the beach like at low tide, and where do guests swim?
How do we get to dinner elsewhere? Official tricycle fares are ₱20 for the first kilometer and ₱5 for each one after, per person (Municipality of Panglao), and Grab has operated in Panglao since December 2024.

Common questions

Is Panglao good for a honeymoon?

It can be, if you want beaches, diving and a day on Bohol more than nightlife or a private island. Several resorts pitch rooms at honeymooners, including Mithi and Oceanica, and Amarela has a couples' offer. Pick a quieter base than Alona if evenings to yourselves matter most.

Should couples stay at Alona or somewhere quieter?

Alona if you want to walk to restaurants, bars and boats; Danao, Bolod and Dumaluan, Doljo or Momo if you want quiet and don't mind a ride to dinner. Danao, which the tourism office puts minutes from Alona, is the closest compromise.

Where can we watch the sunset in Panglao?

Momo, on the north coast, faces north-north-west over open water, and the headland at the western tip of Doljo faces west. Alona faces south, so the sun sets off to one side; the beaches east of Alona face the sunrise.

Which months suit a couples' trip?

December to May is PAGASA's dry season and the busiest time, especially December to March. July to October are the quietest months, within the June-to-November rainy season, and some resorts renovate then. November, still rainy but before the December-to-March peak, is a compromise.

Are there adults-only resorts in Panglao?

Alona's Coral Garden Resort, a nine-unit place in Danao, describes itself as the island's first and only adult resort. Most others take families, and some, including South Palms MGallery and The Bellevue, have children's play areas, so ask where they are before booking a room nearby.

Choose the base for how you want to spend your evenings, ask the resort about noise, and save one late afternoon for Momo or the Doljo headland.
