Panglao on a Budget: Daily Costs, Hostels and Fares

Panglao is not the cheapest corner of the Philippines. In 2024 it had 391 places to stay with 6,297 rooms, more than half of Bohol's hotel rooms (Bohol provincial planning office), and Alona's beachfront restaurants charge holiday prices. But the island also has dorm beds under ₱500, small eateries selling dishes for about ₱50, and a municipal fare table that sets what a tricycle ride should cost.

This guide builds a daily budget from published prices: hostel and hotel listings, the fare table, dive-shop and resort price lists, and travel guides updated in 2025 and 2026. Prices move with the season and the exchange rate, so check each one before you pay.

What a day costs

Our estimate per person, added up from the prices below, checked 28 September 2026. Two people sharing a room or a scooter pay noticeably less each.

As a cross-check, The Broke Backpacker (updated 18 September 2026) budgets US$22–65 a day at the thriftiest level. The biggest saving is the room; for most people, the biggest cost is a day on the water.

Arriving and getting around

Bohol–Panglao International Airport is about 3 km from Alona Beach, and the cheapest ride is a tricycle. The Municipality of Panglao's fare table (checked 28 September 2026) sets ₱20 for the first kilometer plus ₱5 for each additional kilometer, per person: ₱30 from the airport to Rona's Corner at Alona, or ₱25 for students, seniors and people with disabilities. Drivers often quote for the whole vehicle instead; travel guides updated in 2026 report ₱100 to ₱150 per tricycle (LakbayPinas, Nasha Planeta). Agree the price before loading bags; the municipality's complaint desk is on 0998 334 8469.

Grab has operated in Panglao since December 2024 (Bohol Island News), and LakbayPinas puts a Grab car to Alona at a similar ₱110–₱150. Check the app on landing, as the terminal pickup point is not published. Avoid the fixed-price cars at arrivals if you are counting pesos: in November 2025 a tariff board showed ₱700 for a car and ₱800 for a van to Panglao destinations outside the Alona area, amid complaints of overcharging (Interaksyon). The provincial tourism office's transport page lists no taxis, so treat any “taxi” as a private hire and fix the fare first.

From Tagbilaran's ferry port, LakbayPinas reports a ₱40–₱50 tricycle to the Dao bus terminal and a ₱70–₱100 bus to Alona, against ₱440–₱550 by Grab or taxi. Southern Star Bus Transit's December 2025 timetable lists 40 air-conditioned trips from Tagbilaran to the airport between 5.30am and 7pm at ₱85. Once settled, most tricycle hops cost ₱30 to ₱40 per person at official fares: Alona to Daorong in Danao is ₱30, and Alona to the town market ₱40. For exploring, Will Fly For Food (updated September 2026) lists scooters at ₱550 a day, falling to ₱400 for rentals of eight days or more. Philippine law requires a standard motorcycle helmet, and your license and insurance should cover motorcycles; if not, stick to tricycles.

Where cheap beds cluster

Budget stays gather inland in Tawala and Danao, a short walk or ride behind Alona, which guides describe as cheaper than the beachfront (3D Academy); in Daorong, in Danao, home of a large social hostel; and in Libaong and Bolod, where farm-style hostels trade restaurants for space. Names below come from owners' sites, Hostelworld and the province's accreditation list (May 2026). Prices are the lowest listed on 28 September 2026.

Add the rides to the room rate: a ₱450 dorm 5 km out adds at least ₱80 a day in official fares for one return trip, and ₱200 or more if drivers charge per vehicle. Our where-to-stay guide compares the areas.

Eating well for less

The cheapest cooked food is at carinderias, small eateries where the day's dishes sit at the counter and you pay for each one you choose. LakbayPinas puts an inland carinderia meal at ₱80 to ₱250, against ₱300 to ₱600 or more at a beachfront restaurant, so walk a few streets back from the sand. These are small working businesses: pay the price shown, and bring cash.

Free and low-cost days

Panglao's beaches are public, and several good days out cost little more than the tricycle.

Alona Beach has no entrance fee. The provincial environment office reported high coliform levels near Alona in September 2024 (Bohol Tribune), so check for posted notices before swimming.
Doljo, at the western tip, is promoted for sunsets, and Momo on the north coast is quiet, according to the municipal tourism office; both are shallow at low tide.
Dumaluan, in Bolod, is a long stretch of fine white sand; one 2024 account reported a ₱25 entry fee (Sandspice).

Hinagdanan Cave, an underground lagoon in Bingag, Dauis, costs ₱50 to enter and ₱75 more to swim, according to Nasha Planeta (August 2026); other guides quote slightly different fees.
Napaling, a reef off Tangnan known for sardine shoals, costs about ₱300 in entrance, environmental and guide fees before gear hire (Alona's Coral Garden).

Island hopping and diving: shared or private

The classic boat trip leaves Alona early for dolphin watching, snorkeling at Balicasag and the Virgin Island sandbar (Panglao tourism office). This is where a budget holds or breaks, so compare what each price includes (checked 28 September 2026).

A private boat only saves money once three or four people share it. Ask whether Balicasag's fees, a guide and snorkel gear are included, and ask for a receipt for environmental fees. Cash, cards and ATM fees

Carry cash: tricycles, carinderias and environmental fees are paid in pesos. Travel guides and directories place bank ATMs, including a BPI machine, near the top of the Alona beach road, but arrive with enough for a day or two; LakbayPinas suggests withdrawing in Tagbilaran before crossing.

Each bank sets its own ATM fee. Under central-bank rules for local withdrawals the fee must appear on screen before you confirm; look for the same prompt with a foreign card. Wise put the usual charge at ₱250 to ₱300 per withdrawal in 2024, with limits of ₱10,000 to ₱20,000, so a few larger withdrawals cost less than many small ones. Your own bank may add a charge. If the machine offers to bill you in your home currency, choose pesos instead: the machine's conversion rate is usually worse.

When Panglao is cheaper

Kayak's Panglao data, checked on 28 September 2026, makes July the cheapest month for hotels, averaging ₱1,920 a night, and February the most expensive. Crowds peak from December to April, at Holy Week, over Christmas and New Year and at weekends. June to November is the rainy season (PAGASA); our when-to-visit guide goes month by month.

The wet-season trade-off is the sea: boat trips can be canceled, so build in a spare day and read our sea-conditions guide before paying ahead. Aviation Updates PH reported in June 2026 that Philippines AirAsia would stop flying to Bohol from 1 October 2026, so compare Manila fares on the remaining airlines, or price a flight to Cebu plus the ferry.
